Target meeting: 27May09, 09:00
Present:
CB, RN, PS, JL, AA, KL, AD, JT
1. Review of actions:
- CB: Coordinate with EMcC and JL labelling and cable documentation
Done. CB, JL, EMcC will meet Monday am at 11:00 to discuss details..
- PS: Make proposal for fibre spares and get a quote
Stands. Thor labs have been approached but no reply yet. Will chase
today.
- PH: Plan schedule/plan for spare fibre laying
Stands.
- JT: Seek to book high-speed camera for relevant period
Stands. JT tried to contact relevant people at RAL, but holiday's have meant
that booking has yet to be made.
2. Progress on mechanical design and fabrication:
2.1 Target assembly: JT
- Materials arrived for the two-part shafts (grind then weld). Have
been taken to Culham for heat treatment.
- Welding of stop materials for single-piece shaft. Slight bend at
weld, Culham asked to heat treat first. Will then consider
straightening in future. Bend is small, but better to avoid in future.
Possibilities discussed with Culham ... potentially better if a stitch
welding technique is adopted.
- Grinding set up -- company awaiting material. Can start within 48
hours of receipt, but may take as long as 10 days. This is a worry as
it may imply receipt of ground shafts at RAL on 07Jul.
- Cost of machining slot in shaft presently £1.7k from contractor.
Now looking at other options -- larger machining company or perhaps Oxford.
- EC continuing to machining cores; cutting seals at present.
- Likely to have a significant machining load in near future. Seek
to lay-off jobs to Imperial and elsewhere to keep up.
- KL to check bandwidth in shop at Imperial.
- Details of clamp design to be reviewed by JT to make sure that collision
with bearings will not cause damage to magnets etc
- JT wishes to use 'LocTite' thread-lock on screws. LocTite not
reasonable in vacuum/radiation conditions. So, may need to revise
material choices to insure that there is no galling.
2.2 Stator: CB
- Two stator coils are built and tested to 1kV;
- Ready now to mount stators on vacuum tube. Outstanding issue is
size of spacers at either end of the coil stack.
- RN proposes conducting spacers should be made of aluminium. One
issue is aluminium/copper interface. Preferred solution is a 4mm
copper spacer.
2.3 Modifications to gate valve and vacuum vessel: EMcC
3. Progress on electrical installation etc.
- KL needs to invite one of the electrical team for future meetings.
4. Progress on (dynamic) mechanical FEA: SY, WL
5. Progress on magnetic FEA: PS
6. Target electronics and DAQ: PS, JL
- PS has begun to prepare the VHDL code. Park and hold code written,
but not yet tested. Testing awaits implementation of hardware at
Sheffield. Setting up hardware is expected to be time consuming, but
not expected to present particular problems.
- If interface board is not stuffed and functioning (but may be not
debugged) by Friday 05Jun09, will require to find additional effort to
support electronics.
- KL to investigate the bandwidth in the electronics w/s at Imperial
in case it becomes necessary..
7. Commissioning plan: discussion
- Present document will be linked by KL to target page comments at/during
CM24.
- CB points out that require survey to determine relative position of
target tip and external fiducial mark on target frame.
- JT, EMcC, CB: Propose survey scheme to relate position of
target tip to an external fiducial.
8. Next meeting
- Next target meeting: 10Jun09
- Next target w/s, with ISIS, fixed for 17un09
- ISIS contributions:
- Interlocks/use of signals on ISIS side;
- Beam loss monitor recording within ISIS
Summary of actions:
- PS: Make proposal for fibre spares and get a quote
- PH: Plan schedule/plan for spare fibre laying
- JT: Seek to book high-speed camera for relevant period
- KL: Check availability of w/s effort at Imperial
- KL: Invite representative of DL electrical team to future
meetings
- KL: Investigate bandwidth of electrical w/s for target board
manufacture if needed
- JT, EMcC, CB: Propose survey scheme to relate position of target
tip to an external fiducial
