Target meeting: 07Oct09, 09:00

Present: PH, CB, PS, RN, JL, JT, KL, SG

1. Review of actions:

• PS, JL: write specification for generation of MICE target signal for ISIS BPS.
  Ongling.  Not ready to complete it as yet, see below.
  
• AN: Try to book high-speed camera for week of 19Oct09
  Andy had asked, but not yet received reply.  JT will chase.  Dont need high-speed camera until 22Oct09.
  
• PS: Liaise with SG over making the DL power supply work.
  Done. Discussion with SG via email.  AO or SG will be at RAL when assembly and re-commissioning is taking place at RAL.
  
• AN: Check for clean room facilities in R12
  Done.  We may use the R12 clean room.
  
• JT: Check that we may use R2 clean room for assembly
  Stands.
  
• JT: Will estimate Metrology/Microscopy manpower for build of T2 and inspection.
  Done.  25% for September.
  
• KL: Disseminate date for target meeting with ISIS and MICE (18Dec09)
  Stands.  Should be done straight after today's phone call.

2. Progress on mechanical design and fabrication:

2.1 Target assembly [2] and [3]: JT

• Shaft and bearings are with TechVac.  Machine at TechVac was 'unwell' but is now back in action.  The shaft and bearings are now being prepared for coating.  Expecting coatings to be done today.  Expect to take delivery by the end of the week.  JT will then have to inspect so that the shaft/bearings will be ready for Monday.
• Investigation on T2 shaft now complete.  Using interferometer at Taylor Hobson, inspected peak features observed at RAL. 
• T2/T3 updates are in hand.  Body and top flange for T3 are manufactured.  More discussion on plastics suitable for bearings on T3.  Probably use Vespel and Torlon (spelling?).

2.2 Stator: CB

• No progress since last week.  Still about to start testing and grading coils.

3. Progress on electrical installation etc.: SG

• Little to report.  SG and AO will come to RAL next Tuesday to work on the controls and PC interface.  Sheffield crew will be on site too.
• Schedule shows target commissioning on Wednesday.  SG and AO will discuss and perhaps come to RAL Wednesday instead.

4. Progress on (dynamic) mechanical FEA: SY, WL

• No report this week.

5. Progress on magnetic FEA: PS

• No report this week.

6. Target electronics and DAQ: PS, JL

• PS:
  • Coding has re-started.  Presently trying to re-create the functionality of the present controller in the FPGA.  Something like 70% of the way through this.
• JL:
  • Presently working on general controls, so now report.
• PH: Should the s/w in the R78 set up be upgraded?  JL believes it is Ok to leave since upgrades related to the analysis of pulse shape.

7. Target interaction with MICE PPS and ISIS BPS: CMacW

• No report this week.

8. Documentation, analysis etc.:

• 14Oct09: 09:00?  Will be working on assembly and commissioning ...
  • Agree dont make meeting at 09:00 next Wednesday ... so next meeting 21Oct09
• Target workshop in November?
  • Agree will make trgt w.s in November.  Propose 27Nov09, confirm date next week.
    • We confirmed the date -- meeting will be in Sheffield
• Target review meeting with ISIS: 18Dec09
