Target meeting: 27Jan10, 09:00

Present: PS, GB, KL, JT, CB, PH, JL, EC, AD

1. Review of actions:

• PS, JL: write specification for generation of MICE target signal for ISIS BPS.
  Stands.
   
• GB: To liaise with JT and Shf to work out stator magnetic QA rig.
  Action done: will use Diamond rig.  GB not happy with idea of doing it as an 'xy' stage.  May make a set of measurements and then rotate stator and repeat measurement.  Goal is to have jigging done by time Diamond expert returns 22Feb.  Connection made with Diamond magnetic device 'owner'.  Seemed OK that we were there.
   
• PS: To guide readout and analysis of thermocouple in target housing.
  Stands.
   
• AD/PH: Will find a way of automating processing so that BLOC can check the histogram.
  Stands.
   
• PH: Inform trgt group how archiving of target data to GRID will be done.
  Stands.
   
• PS: When ready in January, ask AN to find an independent person to review operation of new control system prior to installing it in MLCR.
  Superseded.  Need now to plan how to introduce next stage of control programme.
   
• PS: Look at ways of including the "legal spill" marker feature.
  Stands.
   
• PH: Coordinate commissioning of T2#3.
  Done.

2. Progress on mechanical design and fabrication:

2.1 Target assembly [2] and [3]: JT

• Will prepare another two sets of shafts and bearings.
• Outgassing tests will being with Vespel will start soon.
• Need to move on to plan study of alternative bearing materials.

2.2 Performance analysis of T2#2: PH

• Remote access to the target monitoring is hard because the gateway (heplnw17) is still;
• Have 136k on the clock.
• Target team agree to run to failure.  How to define failure: if it deviates significantly from set behaviour or if performance is deteriorating.
• For long term soak agree:
  • PS: make MOM check list ... this is already in the daily check.  Agree to make table in log book and read values more than once a day.
  • PH: Daily history plot

2.3 Stator: CB, GB, OT

• Some progress on assembly of stator coils in Sheffield.  Going slower than desired, but not presently on critical path;
• Will include magnetic measurement and magnetic analysis in this item in future.

3. Target electronics and DAQ: PS, JL

• PS:
  • Too busy being MOM;
• JL:
  • Awaits progress on PS tasks.

5. AoB

• CB has begun to make a paper on the target manufacture.  Will make draft outline with lead authors identified.
• PH: remind need to cross check on magnets in Diamond rig.
